San Angelo Murals

Join the San Angelo mural renaissance

San Angelo became the Visual Arts Capitol of Texas in 2022. Let's make sure we live up to that title.

About Me

Alejandro Castanon

The first thing you should know is that I am self-taught and will forever be a "learning artist". I was born in Mexico and grew up traveling Europe with my family. My culture and exposure to the European lifestyle greatly influenced my art. Landing in San Angelo was fortuitous and I'm grateful to be living in a community exploding with creative minds.

My first mural (2019) can be found at Paint Brush Alley in San Angelo, TX. Before that moment I had been painting professionally for 8 years. Taking the leap into murals was a dream of mine and has allowed me to try ideas much too large for canvas.

Taking lessons I previously learned and scaffolding my knowledge every time I took on a new project I was able to quickly improve and take on harder more complicated projects.

Current mural Project

Lakeview High School

Returning to Lakeview H.S. to work on another wall has been a delight. The first mural project was designed around the hallway for their Culinary program. I decided to incorporate elements of "making" with a heavy emphasis on how hands are an integral part of the process of preparing dishes.

Our return to Lakeview is to finish the other side of the hallway. This time we are designing a mural around the idea of connection and how meals connect us all.

If you'd like to follow my social you'll see updates on our progress and completion.

Upcoming Murals

Sonora, TX

Currently, in the planning phase, this will be two mural projects for the city's downtown area.

GREGORIO Gutierrez MURAL

This a passion project that I am currently raising funds for. Gregorio Gutierrez was a dear friend and mentor. He was the CEO and founder of Conexion Newspaper in San Angelo. He passed away in 2021 from COVID related complications.

I am searching for a wall on the north side of town that would enjoy a free mural.
